Nicotinamide mononucleotide, a building block for NAD+

What it is

NMN is a naturally occurring molecule that your body converts into NAD+, a coenzyme every cell needs for its energy metabolism. NAD+ levels decline with age, which is why NMN is one of the most studied longevity ingredients. We use Longevir® β-NMN, produced in Europe, in capsules with liposomal technology and as a pure powder.

Why we use it

A fixed daily dose of 250 mg per capsule or scoop, with a liposomal layer in the capsules to help protect the NMN during digestion. Research looks at NMN in relation to NAD+ levels, energy and healthy ageing; we describe those studies without overstating them.

Trans-resveratrolo

A plant polyphenol, finely milled for absorption

What it is

Resveratrol is a polyphenol found in grape skins, berries and Japanese knotweed. Trans-resveratrol is the stable, active form. We use finely milled (micronised) trans-resveratrol in a liposomal formula, 250 mg per capsule.

Why we use it

Resveratrol is studied in relation to oxidative stress and the heart and blood vessels, and it is a natural partner of NMN in a daily longevity routine. Resveratrol on its own is poorly absorbed, which is why the particle size and the liposomal layer matter.

Spermidina

A natural polyamine involved in cell renewal

What it is

Spermidine is a polyamine that occurs naturally in our cells and in foods such as wheat germ, aged cheese and mushrooms. Our formula delivers 5 mg spermidine per capsule together with vitamins B1, B6, B12, folate, vitamin D3 and zinc.

Why we use it

Spermidine is studied for its role in autophagy, the process by which cells clear and renew their components. The added vitamin D and zinc play a role in cell division, and the B vitamins contribute to a normal energy metabolism.

Quercetina

A flavonoid from onions, apples and capers

Quercetin is one of the most common flavonoids in plant foods. Our capsule combines 150 mg quercetin with 80 mg vitamin C, 47 mg bromelain and 11 mg zinc in a liposomal formula.

Why we use it

Quercetin is studied in relation to cellular ageing, immune processes and metabolism. Vitamin C and zinc support the immune system and help protect cells against oxidative stress; bromelain, an enzyme from pineapple, is a classic companion of quercetin.

Bromelain

Why we use it

Nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide are forms of vitamin B3 that the body uses to make NAD+. Our NAD+ Booster combines 250 mg NR with 100 mg nicotinamide, 160 mg blueberry anthocyanins and 10 mg L-ergothioneine in one capsule.

Why we use it

Vitamin B3 contributes to a normal energy metabolism and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue. NR is studied as a NAD+ precursor alongside NMN; combining precursors gives a formula for people who prefer one capsule a day.

L-ergothioneine

L-ergothioneine is a sulphur-containing amino acid that the body cannot make itself. It comes mainly from mushrooms and is taken up by a dedicated transporter in our cells, which is unusual for a dietary compound. The NAD+ Booster contains 10 mg per capsule.

Why we use it

Ergothioneine is studied for its antioxidant role and for its possible part in healthy ageing; some researchers call it a longevity vitamin. In the NAD+ Booster it complements the NAD+ precursors rather than replacing them.

Anthocyanins

Anthocyanins are flavonoids responsible for the blue, purple and red colours of berries and other fruits. The NAD+ Booster contains 160 mg anthocyanins from blueberries.

Why we use it

Anthocyanins are studied for their antioxidant role and in relation to the heart, blood vessels and cognition. They add a plant-based antioxidant to a formula built around NAD+ precursors.

Berberine is a plant compound from barberry, goldenseal and Chinese goldthread. Dihydroberberine is the form the body converts berberine into before absorption; taking it directly means a lower dose does the same work. We use 200 mg GlucoVantage® dihydroberberine with vitamin E, policosanol, chromium and vitamin K2.

Why we use it

Berberine is studied in relation to the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels, and dihydroberberine is gentler on the stomach than plain berberine.

Glycine and NAC

The two building blocks of glutathione

What it is

Glycine is the smallest amino acid and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a stable form of the amino acid cysteine. Together they are called GlyNAC. Our formula gives 600 mg of each per daily dose, without a long list of other ingredients.

Why we use it

The body uses glycine and cysteine to make glutathione, one of its main antioxidants, and glutathione levels decline with age. GlyNAC is studied in older adults in relation to several hallmarks of ageing.

Calcium AKG

Alpha-ketoglutarate, a molecule from the energy cycle

What it is

Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) is an intermediate of the citric acid cycle, the process cells use to release energy. Levels drop with age. We use 600 mg calcium AKG, the stable form, combined with 500 mg L-carnitine tartrate, 25 mg coenzyme Q10 and 500 µg vitamin B12.

Why we use it

AKG is studied in relation to biological age and healthy ageing. L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 are both involved in energy production in the cell, and vitamin B12 contributes to a normal energy metabolism and helps reduce tiredness, without caffeine or stimulants.

L-carnitine is a compound the body makes from amino acids; it transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are burned for energy. Our calcium AKG formula contains 500 mg L-carnitine tartrate, a stable and well-absorbed form.

Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a vitamin-like compound found in every cell, at its highest in the heart, liver and muscles. It is a link in the chain that turns nutrients into ATP, the cell’s energy currency. Our calcium AKG formula contains 25 mg.

Why we use it

Several capsules carry the active ingredient inside liposomes, microscopically small spheres of fat-like substances (sunflower lecithin) that also occur in our own cells. The liposome forms a protective layer around the ingredient during digestion.

Why we use it

We use it where it adds value for the stability, protection and absorption of an ingredient. How much difference it makes depends on the ingredient and the quality of the product; the word liposomal alone is no guarantee.
